Whitney Milam
I've spent the past decade building brand, narrative, and executive voice for companies and institutions doing hard, important work in high-stakes environments across frontier tech, government, and advocacy. I specialize in translating complex, consequential, and contested ideas into narratives that earn trust and shape public understanding.

Experience
Startup Communications & Brand Strategy
I've led content and narrative strategy for two of the world's leading fusion energy companies – Commonwealth Fusion Systems and Proxima Fusion – at critical moments of scaling. At CFS, I directed digital communications and executive voice, growing social audiences 71% through multi-platform expansion and flagship video work. At Proxima, I built the company's brand and communications function from zero, quadrupled the LinkedIn following, generated 8M+ impressions, and supported a $150M Series A. The throughline is translating frontier engineering and physics into narratives that hold up under investor, policymaker, journalistic, and technical scrutiny – and building the systems that let small comms teams operate at the scale of much larger ones.
Political Advocacy & Policy Communications
I've directed communications in some of the highest-stakes political and diplomatic environments of the last decade: owning executive social for President-elect Biden and incoming Cabinet nominees during the presidential transition, directing digital strategy for the U.S. Ambassador to the United Nations during breaking international events, and leading rapid response for national advocacy organizations across elections and major policy fights. The throughline is message discipline under pressure: maintaining voice and narrative coherence when the news cycle is hostile, audiences are sophisticated, and every word is parsed in real time.
Public Engagement & Audience Growth
I've built and scaled public engagement programs that convert institutional credibility into audience growth – growing social platforms from scratch, launching influencer programs that reached millions, and designing campaigns that moved people from awareness to engagement. The work isn't about content volume, but about converting institutional credibility into compounding audience growth.
Writer & Producer
I've ghostwritten op-eds, blog posts, executive communications, newsletters, and major-moment LinkedIn pieces for fusion CEOs, a Cabinet-rank Ambassador, and a President-elect. Earlier in my career, I wrote and produced scripted content for Lionsgate, Skybound, and Blumhouse, and built in-house video production capabilities from scratch at major policy organizations. The ability to do the work, not just direct it, shapes how I lead creative teams.
About Me

I started my career in Los Angeles, where I learned how powerful a good story can be when it's crafted well and told at the right moment. I wrote and produced scripted content and campaigns for major film studios and production companies, before deciding to apply those same storytelling skills to work that shapes the world beyond the screen.
Since then, I've spent the past 10 years building brands, leading digital strategy, and shaping narratives at the intersection of technology, policy, and public impact – from national advocacy organizations and federal government to two of the world's leading fusion energy companies. I most recently led brand and content at Proxima Fusion, translating complex science and engineering into narratives that earn public legitimacy, political support, and the trust of the people the company needs to hire, fund, and partner with.
My work has taken me from Hollywood to Washington to Europe, shaping stories for global audiences across cultures and borders. Across sectors, the throughline has been the same: using narrative to make difficult ideas understandable, credible, and worth acting on.
